As a child Dr. Chris was introduced to the power of Chiropractic care and the power of a properly functioning nervous system.  His first experience came when he simply sneezed and after he could not move his neck.  He received his first Chiropractic adjustment and motion was restored.  A few years later, Chris began getting horrible headaches.  He was involved in many sports and the traumas that he received from these activities began to take a toll on his nerve system.  He saw many doctors, none of which could determine what the cause of the headaches were. He again received an adjustment and instantly his headache went away.  As time went on, Dr. Chris realized that he was taking less and less of his asthma medications and eventually was no longer using his inhalers.  At that point Dr. Chris knew he wanted to be a Chiropractor and really help people with things they suffer from.

Dr. Chris attended Life West Chiropractic College in Hayward, CA.  It was, and is still today, one of the most well rounded Chiropractic Colleges in America.  While there, he focused on learning as much as he could about the Central Nervous System, the way it controls the body and how important it is in maintaining health and proper function.  He took his knowledge and skills, with a group of students and Doctors, to Mexico where they served hundreds of people on a Chiropractic Mission trip.  Dr. Chris graduated as one of the top in his class and received several accolades including Gold level honors for his clinical work and his second Who’s Who award.

During his studies and research, Dr. Chris learned of Upper Cervical Chiropractic and how an adjustment at the top bone of the neck, Atlas, can help to regulate blood pressure.  This peaked his interest because he was told that he was pre-hypertensive and the only thing he could do would be to get on a blood pressure medication.  He went to a Chiropractor in San Francisco and began to receive Upper Cervical Chiropractic care.  After about 8 weeks his high blood pressure normalized and it has been normal ever since.  It was his results that led him to practice the Upper Cervical technique Toggle Recoil.

Dr. Chris and Karen decided that Wilmington, NC was the place that they wanted to set their roots.  Having a new son and with aspirations of a growing family, they wanted a place where the community would be a safe and value based place for their children.  They want to serve more than just the people in their office, but really make a change in their community.  You can expect to see Pinnacle Family Chiropractic partnering with many different service organizations and non-profits to make as big of an impact on the community as they can.  Their vision is to change Wilmington with neurologically based Chiropractic care and serving the community in any way possible.

Dr. Chris and Karen have since had 3 more children, Elizabeth, Amelia and Bennett.  They love exploring the parks in Wilmington and enjoying the beauty the city has to offer.  Mattox, Elizabeth and Amelia all love playing soccer and Bennett is taking to baseball.  You can find them out at the Aquarium, on the beach or in a park when they have the free time to do so.  They are excited to be in Wilmington where they get to enjoy the amazing weather and the values of the Southern Lifestyle.  They love meeting new people, making new friends and welcome you to become a part of their family.

S. Canas

Hi! I’m Stacey Canas, a Chiropractic Assistant here at Pinnacle Family Chiropractic. This means you may see me here at the front desk, scanning patients in the back, or introducing new members to our practice.

I grew up in small town Vermont, relocating to Maine to pursue my college education. Upon receiving my B.A. in Media Studies from the University of Southern Maine, I started my healthcare career working at a residential facility for adults with schizophrenia. In time, I made a shift to neuropsychological testing with a group of psychologists, and later transitioned to the role of office manager within the practice.

After 18 years in mental health and too many years in the cold, I decided to make a change and move south! I arrived in Wilmington in the fall of 2024, with the goal of finding a career where I am able to help people on a daily basis. I have found my home here at Pinnacle, and am grateful to be living in this beautiful city where I can be outside and enjoy the weather year round!

When not at work, you will find me out walking, photographing nature, trying new recipes, or spending time making memories with loved ones. I enjoy volunteering, living organ donor advocacy, listening to live music and reading a good book on the porch!

Hi everyone! I’m Maycee Lathrop, and I am a CA here at Pinnacle Family Chiropractic. My job requires me to schedule practice members, run our Social Media accounts, scan, and provide correct data entry. I have a background in customer service where I built meaningful relationships with all my customers and provided a welcoming presence with everyone I met! I love being able to be a part of someone’s journey to health and wellness!

I am from a small town of 500 people in northern Minnesota named Hill City. After High School, I went to Hamline University in St. Paul, MN where I transferred after 1 year to Western Kentucky University. At WKU I joined Omega Phi Alpha which is a National Service Sorority.
Moving so far away from home without knowing anyone, OPhiA helped me to branch out, build long lasting connections and reconnect with my love for serving others. After college I moved back home to Minnesota but due to the cold I decided to throw a dart at a map which led me to
beautiful Wilmington, NC!

Outside of my position here at Pinnacle, I enjoy watching hockey, baseball, and Formula 1. Some of my favorite hobbies include reading, creating videos, crafting, live music and traveling!
Although, what I value most in life are my family, friends, being an auntie and using my voice as an advocate for everyone!
